All senior students are required to complete their own science investigation in term 4 that will draw on the knowledge they have gained over the course of the year. The organised Jawbone Reserve activities completed so far include: pollution survey, macroinvertebrate study, water purity tests, plant identification and bird watching.
Use the proforma below to think of an inquiry question that you really want to investigate.
Plan your investigation using tried and true scientific methods.
Figure out how you will present your findings to your peers and the wider community.
Also consider – How will my research benefit the community or the body of knowledge that we already have about ecosystems?

Check out all the information in the Greenlane Diary this week. Think about the reasons that the information is included. This week think about the following question and record your answer in the comments section.

Congratulations to the children in Cabin 41A. You were impeccable in your organisation and being ready for each activity right throughout camp in Canberra. We hope you enjoy your reward. Congratulations to everyone else too,as you were all very good, it was a very difficult decision to make.

What a day it has been. We’ve learnt how to compost, how frogs grow from tadpoles and what to do with our litter.
What have you been doing today?

We got super inspired by the book we are reading for the rest of this term, Kimberley Warrior – The story of Jandamarra by John Nicholson.
5/6D are using great writing as inspiration for our own writing and this is what we came up with during the Friday lesson.
On a cold Canberra day in 2013 a young school group huddled their way through the busy suburban streets
of the National Capital into the sports centre.
They are 5/6’s, nervous and tired and they move slowly and wearily, even through these busy streets.
The National Capital is cluttered with busy people and cars forming the noisy scene – loud enough to rattle even this groups eardrums if they should come too close.
The city forms a shadowy dark wall between the sport centre they are heading for and the gentle, quiet campsite behind.
This is our camp, Canberra Camp, one of the best in the world.
Can you tell we are getting excited about our upcoming camp?
Find a favourite book and pick a passage you love. Could you use that passage to inspire your own creative writing efforts?

Yesterday the Friday afternoon ‘power walking team’ got to accompany the Soccer team to the Fearon Reserve to watch them play their match against Altona Primary School. The ‘power walkers’ also had an opportunity to shake out the bugs and play kick to kick and chasing games while some of the girls put on an impressive acrobatic cheer leading display. We were all very impressed with our St Mary’s soccer players as they demonstrated their speed and agility, out scoring Altona 8 goals to 4 to win comfortably. Mrs Scerri did a fantastic job coaching and umpiring too.

Did you know that we will experience King Tides this week in Victoria?
You can capture the tidal movement on your camera and post you photos on the Witness King Tides site at- http://www.witnesskingtides.org/
The term ‘King Tide’ is not a scientific term but it is used world wide to describe the highest tides that occur each year.
Tidal movement is associated with the orbit of the Moon around the Earth and the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
What do you know about tides and tidal movement? Do you have any cool photos of the tidal changes at Williamstown Beach?
